sushi
WHAT YOU NEED:
Sushi Rice
Bamboo Roller
Seaweed (Nori) Sheets
Plastic Wrap
Rice Vinegar
Salt + Sugar (just a pinch)
Sesame Seeds
Whatever ingredients you want – My go to is avocado and mango but that’s just because I haven’t tried raw fish yet.
How to make it:
First you have to cook the rice. You probably want to do this about an hour before assembling and eating.
Wash your rice and then let it soak in water for 25-30 mins. 1 cup rice: 1/2 cup water.
After soaking, bring rice to a boil, after it’s boiling, reduce to simmer and cover for 20 mins. After 20 mins turn heat off and let steam in covered pot for 10 mins.
After it’s done cooking, pour in half a cap full of rice vinegar and a pinch of salt and sugar into the rice and mix. Let the rice sit out in a container for ab 15 mins to cool to warm, not hot, not cool.
While the rice is cooling, slice/prep your ingredients into skinny slices.
Wrap your bamboo roller in plastic wrap, all the way around.
Lay your nori rough side up on the bottom of the bamboo roller.
Wet your hands and spread the rice on the nori creating a thin layer of rice.
Sprinkle your sesame seeds.
Carefully lift nori sheet with rice and flip it rice side down on the roller.
Line bottom of nori with ingredients .
Begin rolling the rice up with the roller tightly, rolling back the saran wrap and bamboo each time so it doesn’t get rolled up in your roll.
Once it is all rolled up, we wrap the top of it with saran wrap.
Then wet a large sharp knife with cool water, slice your rolls, wetting the knife each time.
Take plastic wrap off and then, hopefully, you have sushi.
